Avoiding meat is one of the best and simplest ways to cut down your fat consumption. Modern farm animals are deliberately fattened up to increase profits. Eating fatty meat increases your chances of having a heart attack or developing cancer.

Every minute of every working day, thousands of animals are killed in slaughter-houses. Pain and misery are common. In the US alone, 500,000 animals are killed for meat every hour.

A sausage can contain ground up intestines. How can anyone be sure that the intestines are empty when they are ground up? Do you really want to eat the content of a pig's intestines?

If we eat the plants we grow instead of feeding them to animals, the world's food shortage will disappear virtually overnight. Remember that 100 acres of land will produce enough beef for 20 people but enough wheat to feed 240 people.

Every day, tens of millions of one-day-old male chicks are killed because they will not be able to lay eggs. There are no rules about how this mass slaughter takes place. Some are crushed or suffocated to death. Many are used for fertiliser or fed to other animals.


Animals who die for your dinner table die alone, in terror, in sadness and in pain. The killing is merciless and inhumane.

It's must easier to become (and stay) slim if you are a vegetarian. (By 'slim', I do not mean 'abnormally slender' or 'underweight' but rather, an absense of excess weight!)

Half the rainforests in the world have been destroyed to clear ground to graze cattle to make beefburgers. The burning of the forests contributes 20% of all green-house gases. Roughtly 1,000 species a year become extinct because of the destruction of the rainforests. Approximately 60 million people a year die of starvation. All those lives could be saved because those people could eat grain used to fatten cattle and other farm animals - if Americans ate 10% less meat.


The world's fresh water shortage is being made worse by animal farming. And meat producers are the biggest polluters of water. It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce one pound of meat. If the US meat industry wasn't supported by the taxpayer paying a large proportion of its water costs, then hamburger meat would cost $35 a pound.


If you eat meat, you are consuming hormones that were fed to the animals. No one knows what effect those hormones will have on your health. In some parts of the world, as many as one on four hamburgers contain growth hormones that were originally given to cattle.


The following diseases are commoner among meat eaters: anaemia, appendicitis, arthritis, breast cancer, cancer of the colon, cancer of the prostrate, constipation, diabetes, gallstones, gout, high blood pressure, indigestion, obesity, piles, strokes and varicose veins. Lifelong vegetarians visit hospital 22% less often than meat eaters and for shorter stays. Vegetarians have a 20% lower blood cholestrol level than meat eaters and this reduces heart attack and cancer risks considerably.

Some farmers use tranquillisers to keep animals calm. Other routinely use antibiotics to starve off infection. When you eat meat you are eating those drugs. In America , 55% of all antibiotics are fed to animals and the percentage of staphylococci infections resistant to penicillin went up from 14% in 1960 to 91% in 1988.


In a lifetime, the average meat eater will consumer 36 pigs, 36 sheep and 750 chickens and turkeys. Do you want that much carnage on your conscience?


Animals suffer from pain and fear just as much as you do. How would you like to spend your last hours locked in a truck, packed into a cage with hundreds of other terrified animal and then cruelly pushed into a blood soaked death chamber. Anyone who eats meat condones and supports the way animals are treated.

Animals which are a year old are often far more rational - and capable of logical thought - than six week old babies. Pigs and sheep are far more intelligent than small children. Eating dead animals is barbaric.

Vegetarians are fitter than meat eaters. many of the world's most successful athletes are vegetarian.

Vitamins:

Vitamin A: Vitamin A aids in the growth and repair of body

Vitamin C Complex:
A primary function of Vitamin C is maintaining
collagen, a protein necessary for the formation of
connective tissue in skin, ligaments and bones. Vitamin C plays a role in healing wounds and burns because it facilitates the formation of connective tissue in the scar. Cells in the arterial walls need collagen to help them expand and contract with the beats of the heart; it is also needed in the capillaries, which are more fragile. Another major role of Vitamin C is as an antioxidant. Vitamin C also aids in forming red blood cells and preventing hemorrhaging. It has been found that Vitamin C acts as an antihistamine and may be used to reduce the use of the drug form.

Vitamin D:
Vitamin D can be acquired either by ingestion or by exposure
to sunlight. The previtamin form is known as the "sunshine" vitamin.
The provitamin form is found in plant and animal tissue. A
unique aspect of Vitamin D is that it functions very much like a hormone and has been referred to as one, as it targets organs like the kidneys and intestines. Other target tissues are the brain, pancreas, skin, bones, reproductive organs and some cancer cells.

Vitamin E:
Vitamin E is composed of a group of compound
called tocopherols. four forms of tocopherol exists in nature
including alpha, beta, delta, and gamma. Vitamin E is necessary for all forms of oxygen-consuming life forms. It is also an antioxidant,
which means it opposes oxidation of substances in the body. The B and C Complex are also protected against oxidation when Vitamin E is present in the digestive tract. It has the ability to unite with oxygen
and prevent it from being converted into toxic peroxides. This leaves the red blood cells fully supplied with the pure oxygen that the blood
carries to the heart and other organs. Vitamin E is not only an
antioxidant, it plays an essential role in cellular respiration of all muscles, especially cardiac and skeletal. Vitamin E makes it possible for these muscles and their nerves to function with less oxygen, thereby increasing their endurance and stamina. It also causes dilation of the blood vessels, permitting a fuller flow of blood to the heart. and it protects the lungs and other tissues from damage by polluted air.

Minerals:

Calcium: Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body
and the fifth most abundant substance. About 99% is deposited in the
bones and teeth. The remaining 1% is involved in the soft tissues,
intracellular fluids and blood. The major function of Calcium is to act in cooperation with phosphorus to build and maintain bones and teeth. Another important function is the storage of the mineral in the bones for use by the body. The Calcium state of the bones is constantly fluctuating according to the diet and to the body's needs. The 1% of ionized Calcium that circulates in the fluids of the body is small, but vital, to life. It is essential for healthy blood and eases insomnia and its delicate messenger ions help regulate the heartbeat. Iodine: Is a trace mineral, most of which is converted into

role in regulating the body's production of energy, promotes

Nickel: Is an essential trace mineral found in the body.
Human and animal tests show that nickel may be a factor in hormone, lipid and membrane metabolism and cell membrane integrity.
Significant amounts are found in DNA and RNA and nickel may act as a stabilizer of these nucleic acids.

Selenium: Is an essential mineral found in minute amounts
in the body. It is one of the essential body substances that can be used in a preventive manner for many diseases, including cancer,
arteriosclerosis, stroke, cirrhosis, arthritis and emphysema. Selenium
functions either alone or with enzymes. It is a natural antioxidant that protects against free radicals and appears to preserve elasticity of tissue that becomes less elastic with aging. All diseases that are associated with aging are affected by the workings of Selenium.

cancer prevention properties.

Vanadium: Aids in glucose (blood sugar) oxidation and
transport. Enhances insulin effectiveness (aids with blood sugar problems), decreases cholesterol production, increases effectiveness of heart muscle contraction, and has Anti-Cancer properties.

Zinc: Is an essential trace mineral occurring in the body
in larger amounts than any other trace element except iron. It is
present in all tissues. Zinc is known for its ability to fight disease and
to protect the immune system. It is involved in the Krebs cycle and
energy production. More recently, blindness in the elderly has been found to be arrested by zinc. It is also credited with increasing male sex drive and potency because of its ability to regulate testosterone inthe prostate.

SELAMAT BERPUASA/ KEHIDUPAN


UCAPAN SELAMAT BERPUASA PADA SEMUA KELUARGA DAN KAWAN2.Ujian Allah bertujuan menilai sejauh manakah tahap kesabaran manusia, sama ada mereka bersabar atau sebaliknya.

Allah menjelaskan dalam al-Quran bahawa setiap manusia pasti diuji. Manusia pula perlu mengatur persediaan untuk menempuh ujian Allah, bencana atau musibah, agar tidak kehilangan punca, gelisah dan keluh kesah. Malah, manusia perlu mempunyai daya kekuatan, kegigihan dan tidak mudah berputus asa. Ini sebenarnya memperlihatkan kemampuan manusia bersabar ketika berdepan dengan masalah dan kesukaran hidup dan meyakini setiap ujian pasti ada hikmah di sebaliknya.

Dalam hubungan ini, Allah berfirman bermaksud: "Dan sesungguhnya Kami tetap akan menguji kamu agar Kami mengetahui orang yang berjuang dan bersabar daripada kalangan kamu dan agar Kami dapat mengesahkan (benar atau tidaknya) berita mengenai keadaan kamu." (Surah Muhammad: ayat 31)

Firman Allah lagi bermaksud: "Patutkah manusia menyangka bahawa mereka akan dibiarkan dengan hanya berkata: Kami beriman sedangkan mereka tidak diuji dengan sesuatu cubaan." (Surah Al-Ankabut: ayat 2)

Jelas, ujian Allah bertujuan mendidik manusia agar menghadapi hidup dengan takwa dan beriman kepada Allah. Nilai keimanan seseorang bergantung sejauh mana kita sanggup mengharungi pahit getir hidup dengan bersabar. Iman adalah ikatan perhubungan antara manusia dengan Allah.

Ini bersesuaian dengan hakikat Islam yang membina kekuatan dalaman insan dan sentiasa pula mengiginkan kebaikan. Sebagai manusia seharusnya kita tunduk terhadap apa jua ujian Allah dengan sabar. Bagaimanapun, kebiasaannya ramai kecundang apabila menghadapi ujian Allah, mudah putus asa, resah dan hilang sabar dengan sedikit kesulitan atau cabaran biarpun ia menjanjikan sesuatu kejayaan.

Malah, apabila ditimpa kesusahan, kemiskinan, kesakitan dan permasaalahan, kita semakin tercabar dan hilang sabar. Ada pula hampir melupakan bahawa segala yang berlaku adalah kudrat Allah yang mesti diterima dengan sabar. Rasulullah saw bersabda, maksudnya: "Siapa yang ingin bersabar, Allah memberikan kesabaran kepadanya. Dia tidak memberikan seseorang yang terbaik dan terluas daripada sabar."

Ditinjau keadaan dunia hari ini, dalam era globalisasi yang dicirikan ruang siber, teknologi maklumat dan digital, umat Islam tidak terkecuali daripada pelbagai masalah, ujian dan cabaran. Bagaimanapun, pengalaman dan kenyataan menggambarkan ramai antara kita tidak bersabar menempuh ujian dan cabaran.

Malah, ada segelintir umat Islam tidak dapat menerima perubahan dan peralihan struktur sosial, ekonomi dan teknologi, yang akhirnya menyebabkan mereka terpinggir dalam penguasaan teknologi. Ini berkait rapat dengan sikap ketidaksabaran dalam penerokaan ilmu di mana cabaran dan masalah dianggap menyusah atau membebankan. Dalam pada itu, kita sering mudah tunduk kepada tekanan emosi dan nafsu dalam menghadapi persaingan mengejar kemajuan kerana sikap tidak sabar untuk berkuasa. Kita tidak sabar dengan nafsu materialisme hingga memilih jalan mudah untuk mencapai kedudukan.

Malah, ada yang terbabas daripada tuntutan Islam sehingga mengamalkan perbuatan yang terang-terangan bertentangan dengan Islam seperti penyelewengan, penipuan dan salah guna kuasa. Kita juga tidak sabar apabila ditegur atau dikritik walaupun teguran itu untuk kebaikan bersama sehingga mencetuskan krisis berpanjangan.

Kita juga tidak sabar apabila diuji dengan sedikit masalah seperti kesusahan, kerugian, kerenah keluarga, pekerjaan, perniagaan dan pendidikan. Umat Islam tidak seharusnya bercakap kosong, tetapi mampu bertindak berbekal kesabaran di dada, menangani keadaan yang berkemungkinan memudaratkan serta disusuli dengan menunaikan kewajipan kepada Allah dan menyelamatkan diri daripada melakukan perkara mungkar.

Justeru, umat Islam yang mempunyai akidah yang teguh akan mudah menerima bencana, kesukaran, cabaran dan masalah yang berlaku berpunca daripada kecuaian manusia sendiri, perlu sabar menghadapi ujian Allah itu. Allah berfirman bermaksud: "Jika kamu bersabar dan bertakwa, sesungguhnya yang demikian itu termasuk urusan yang patut diutamakan." (Surah Ali Imran: ayat 186)Allah berfirman lagi, bermaksud: "Dan berikanlah berita gembira kepada orang yang sabar. Mereka itulah yang mendapat berkat yang sempurna dan rahmat daripada Tuhannya dan mereka itulah yang mendapat petunjuk." (Surah Al-Baqarah: ayat 155-157)

Ditinjau perjalanan hidup kalangan utusan Allah dan salihin, mereka juga tidak terkecuali daripada ujian dan kesukaran hidup sebelum mencapai kejayaan. Malah, berapa banyak di kalangan mereka yang hidup sengsara dan menderita, tetapi tetap bersabar. Nabi Adam, Nuh dan Muhammad tidak terkecuali daripada ujian Allah dan kesukaran hidup. Nabi Muhammad sendiri bukan sekadar diuji dengan kesukaran menegakkan Islam tetapi dijanjikan kedudukan dan kemewahan dunia oleh kaum Quraisy sekiranya baginda tidak meneruskan perjuangan menyebarkan syiar Islam.

Malah, kronologi peristiwa hijrah baginda seharusnya dijadikan iktibar, bagaimana kesabaran baginda berjaya membina kegemilangan negara Islam. Allah berfirman melalui surah Asy-Syaffaat ayat 102 mengenai sikap kesabaran Nabi Ismail apabila bapanya Ibrahim mendapat perintah Allah supaya menyembelihnya sebagai korban kepada Allah. Ismail dengan sabar berkata: "Wahai bapa, jalankanlah apa yang diperintahkan kepadamu, insya-Allah bapa akan mendapati aku daripada orang-orang yang sabar."

Kita juga sering mendengar riwayat Bilal Rabbah, seorang hamba yang sangat penyabar. Sungguhpun diseksa dan dicaci, beliau tetap bersabar dan imannya tidak pernah berganjak. Kesabarannya mendapat ganjaran di dunia apabila dimerdekakan oleh Abu Bakar as-Siddiq dan pada akhirnya dijanjikan syurga oleh Allah. Dalam suatu riwayat lain diceritakan kesabaran Ammar - anak Yassir dan Sumaiyah, ketika berdepan dengan seksaan kaum musyrikin Makkah. Rasulullah ketika melawat keluarga Ammar, bersabda: "Bersabarlah kamu wahai keluarga Yassir, kesabaran kamu akan dianugerahkan balasan syurga."

Begitulah kelebihan sifat sabar yang bukan sahaja menjanjikan kejayaan di dunia bahkan kenikmatan di akhirat. Justeru, kita perlu menanam sifat sabar pada diri dan ahli keluarga, di samping tidak meremehkan hal fardu kifayah seperti mendalami ilmu pengetahuan, terutama teknologi maklumat agar dapat meningkatkan kehidupan umat Islam dan menjadi umat yang tidak mudah menyerah kalah. Umat Islam akan memperoleh hidayah dan syafaat berpandukan al-Quran dan al-Hadis serta mencontohi ciri kehidupan kalangan ambia, ulama dan orang yang salih. Kesabaran seharusnya menjadi teras yang melatari serta menunjangi hidup kita agar kejayaan dunia dan akhirat akan menjadi milik umat Islam seluruhnya.

Dan Ingatlah.. Bahawa Allah Itu Sentiasa Bersama dengan orang yang bersabar..

Mereka yang beriman akan rela dan sabar menerima apa yang dikurniakan Allah kepadanya di samping meneruskan perjalanan hidup ke arah kebaikan, memperkuat dan memperkukuhkan kesabaran dalam diri sendiri. Sesuai dengan firman Allah subhanahu wata'ala dalam surah Ali 'Imran ayat 200 yang tafsirnya:

"Wahai orang-orang yang beriman! Bersabarlah kamu (menghadapi segala kesukaran dalam mengerjakan perkara-perkara yang berkebajikan) dan kuatkanlah kesabaran kamu (lebih daripada kesabaran musuh, di medan perjuangan) dan bersedialah (dengan kekuatan pertahanan di daerah-daerah sempadan) serta bertakwalah kamu kepada Allah, supaya kamu berjaya (mencapai kemenangan)."

Seorang mukmin yang sejati akan bermodalkan kesabaran dalam menempuh segala macam dugaan. Di hati mereka tertanam keyakinan bahawa setiap kejadian ada rahmat di sebaliknya sama ada kejadian itu diharapkan atau tidak. Namun begitu ia akan bersyukur dan tidak lupa diri apabila nikmat Allah subhanahu wata'ala datang bertandang. Kesengsaraan dan kemalaratan tidak akan mengheretnya kepada lupa dengan tanggungjawab malah ia akan menjadikan segala kejadian yang berlaku sebagai iktibar dan pengajaran.
